Launched by Zarooq Motors, a boutique car manufacturer based in Dubai, The Sand Racer 500GT isn’t just another addition to the supercar scene. It’s a purpose-built hybrid of raw off-road capability and high-end performance engineering. In essence, it’s what happens when a dune buggy gets a PhD in luxury, power, and style.

A Supercar with Off-Road DNA

From the first glance, the Sand Racer 500GT makes its intentions clear. It stands tall with an aggressive stance, widened arches, and a silhouette that hints at Dakar Rally influence. But unlike the spartan nature of rally cars, this vehicle’s carbon-fiber body wraps a cabin filled with luxury materials like leather, suede, and carbon trim. The chassis of the Sand Racer is a tubular racing frame, engineered for off-road rigidity. With a ground clearance of over 12 inches (adjustable with racing-grade suspension), and a reinforced underbody, this vehicle laughs in the face of dunes, rocks, and rough trails. Yet, unlike most off-roaders, it doesn’t compromise on speed or style to get there.

Power and Performance

At the heart of the Sand Racer 500GT lies a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine sourced from Corvette heritage. It produces a thundering 525 horsepower and 660 Nm of torque. Mated to a 5-speed sequential racing transmission with paddle shifters, the Sand Racer isn’t just powerful — it’s also precise.

Despite its ruggedness, the 500GT accelerates like a sports car. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just under 4 seconds. Top speed? Around 220 km/h (137 mph), which may not be hypercar-fast, but considering it can achieve this across loose sand and uneven ground, it’s incredibly impressive.

And then there’s the rear-wheel drive configuration — a controversial choice for an off-road vehicle. But this wasn’t an oversight. Zarooq Motors was founded with a unique vision: to create a car that reflects the heritage and environment of the UAE. The name “Zarooq” itself means “fast snake” in Arabic, a fitting moniker for a car designed to slither across the sand with speed and grace.

While most automakers design off-road-capable vehicles as utility machines, Zarooq flipped the script. Their idea was to combine luxury, motorsport engineering, and off-road mastery into a limited-production, high-end package — a vehicle that could just as easily tackle the dunes of Liwa as it could turn heads on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Only 35 units of the 500GT were planned for production, making it not only a performance beast but a collector’s dream. At a price tag starting around $450,000, exclusivity is guaranteed.
