Ram’s Bold Return: The Dakota Nightfall Concept Rises Again

In a move that’s sparking excitement across South America—and stirring speculation in North America—Ram has unveiled the Dakota Nightfall concept, marking the revival of the legendary Dakota nameplate, but with a regional twist.

A New Breed of Dakota—Built for South America

The Dakota Nightfall concept was recently introduced in São Paulo, Brazil. Built on a body-on-frame architecture shared with the Fiat Titano and Peugeot Landtrek, this new Dakota is positioned as a rugged, midsize pickup tailored for South American conditions.

Design & Capability Highlights:

  • Bold aesthetics: A dominant grille bearing the RAM emblem, flanked by a seamless LED bar and angular LED headlights.
  • TRX-inspired hood: Sporty hood scoop with three amber clearance lights—an homage to Ram’s performance heritage.
  • Off-road readiness: Equipped with 18-inch beadlock wheels, 33-inch all-terrain tires, Fox performance suspension, skid plates, winch, tow hooks, and side steps.
  • Rugged rear: Features a RAM-branded tailgate, integrated Rambar roll cage with auxiliary LED lights, full-size spare mounted in-bed, and robust bronze finishes.

Powertrain & Performance:

  • Under the hood lies a 2.2-liter turbodiesel Multijet II engine, delivering approximately 200 hp and 332 lb‑ft (450 Nm) of torque.
  • Power is routed through a ZF 8-speed automatic to a full-time 4×4 system.

Production Plans:

  • Built at Stellantis’s Córdoba Assembly Plant in Argentina (which also manufactures the Fiat Titano), production is set to begin by the end of 2025, with sales launching in Brazil and other markets in early to mid-2026.

What This Signals for North America

While this rebirth is exciting, Ram’s Dakota Nightfall is destined for South American markets only. There are currently no plans for U.S. distribution of this variant.

However, this concept serves as a compelling preview of what Ram might bring to the North American midsize truck segment in the near future. Industry insiders anticipate the launch of a distinct Dakota model for the U.S. around 2027, possibly entering production in Illinois and likely bearing only a nameplate resemblance, if any, to the South American model.
